WAYS TO PERSONALIZE A CELEBRATION OF LIFE CEREMONY

Every life is different, and the way we honor someone should reflect who they were, what they loved, what they believed, and the people and memories that mattered most.

From music and meaningful traditions to personal belongings, shared stories, and unexpected touches, we'll choose the elements that make the ceremony feel unmistakably like your person.

There is no one way to say goodbye. Together, we'll create what feels right for the life you're honoring.

Some things are simply part of the care I provide. These are included with every Celebration of Life ceremony at no additional charge.

• Ceremony Recording: I record the ceremony so family and friends who couldn't attend can still experience the stories and memories shared that day. It isn't a professionally produced video, but it is yours to keep and share.
• Personalized Ceremony Program: I'll design a custom program that reflects your person and the ceremony we've created together. You'll receive a print-ready file to have printed wherever you choose. Printing is not included.
• Service Announcement Graphic: I'll create a personalized graphic with your loved one's photo and service details, ready to share by text, email, or social media.

Sometimes a simple act can express what words cannot.

Together, we can choose a meaningful ritual that reflects your person's life, beliefs, relationships, or the way your family wants to say goodbye.

• Candle Lighting: Light a candle individually or together in remembrance of your person.
• Flower Farewell: Invite family and friends to place a flower as a personal final gesture of love and remembrance.
• Memory Stone Ceremony: Guests choose or hold a stone as part of a shared moment of remembrance, creating a meaningful keepsake for the family.
• Bell Ringing: Ring a bell together or individually to mark a moment of remembrance or farewell.
• Ribbon Tying: Family and friends tie ribbons as a symbol of connection, love, and the relationships that remain.
• Dove, Butterfly, or Bubble Send-Off: Create a visual moment of farewell following the ceremony.*
• Tree, Flower, or Memorial Planting: Plant something in your person's memory that can continue to grow and be visited over time.
• Sand Blending: Family members combine different colors of sand, creating a keepsake that represents lives and memories forever connected.
• Prayer or Family Blessing: Gather together for prayer, a spoken blessing, laying on of hands, or another expression of faith meaningful to your family.
• Communion: Include Communion as part of a Christian Celebration of Life when it reflects your person's faith and wishes.
• Final Toast: Raise a glass together in honor of your person and the life they lived.
• Military Honors: Incorporate appropriate military traditions or a flag presentation when honoring a veteran.

The ritual should never be included simply for the sake of doing something different. It should have meaning and feel connected to the person you're honoring.

Outdoor releases may depend on the location, venue requirements, and local restrictions.

Sometimes the most meaningful moments happen when family and friends are invited to become part of the ceremony.

Together, we can create opportunities for the people who knew and loved your person to share their own memories, stories, and words.

• Open Sharing or Story Circle: Invite family and friends to share a favorite story, memory, or something they will always remember about your person.
• Memory Cards: Guests write a favorite memory, story, or personal message for the family to keep and read in the days ahead.
• Tribute Wall: Photographs, handwritten memories, notes, and stories come together to create a visual celebration of their life.
• Messages on the Casket: With a black casket and white markers, family and friends can write names, memories, prayers, messages, or final words directly on the casket.
• Memory Table: Fill a table with personal things that help tell the story of your person's life. Photographs, handwritten recipes, favorite books, an instrument, awards, collections, keepsakes, sports memorabilia, or even something wonderfully ordinary they were known for can all become part of the display. If it makes someone smile and say, "That was so them," it belongs on the table.
• Recorded Guest Memories: Invite family and friends to record a brief story, favorite memory, or a few words about your person. Selected messages can be brought together into a keepsake video for the family to preserve, limited to five minutes or less.
• Community Blessing or Final Farewell: Invite everyone to participate together in a prayer, blessing, meaningful reading, or simple words of farewell.

Participation is always an invitation, never an expectation. We'll choose what feels comfortable and meaningful for your family.

Sometimes a small keepsake can carry a big memory.

Together, we can choose something personal for guests to take home, inspired by who your person was and what they loved.

• Favorite Recipe Card: Share the recipe everyone always asked them to make, perhaps in their own handwriting if you have it.
• Personalized Keepsake Card or Bookmark: Include a favorite photograph, quote, Scripture, saying, or words they were known for.
• Seeds or Something to Grow: Their favorite flower, seed packets, a plant cutting, or a small succulent can create a living remembrance.
• Pocket Keepsake: A small stone, guitar pick, token, or other meaningful object chosen because it connects directly to their life, interests, or personality.
• A Favorite Comfort: Tea, coffee, candy, or another small favorite can become a personal remembrance when it was something everyone associated with them.
• Memorial Candle: A small candle personalized with their name, a meaningful phrase, Scripture, or favorite saying.

The keepsake doesn't need to be elaborate. It simply needs to make people think of them.

Music and photographs can bring back memories in a way few other things can.

Together, we can choose the sounds and images that immediately make everyone think of your person.

• Live Guitarist & Vocalist: A favorite or meaningful song performed live as part of the ceremony.*
• Live Violinist: Beautiful live music selected specifically for your person, from a favorite song to a meaningful piece for reflection or farewell.*
• Meaningful Music: Favorite songs can be woven throughout the ceremony, as guests arrive, during moments of reflection, or as family and friends say goodbye.
• Celebration of Life Video Tribute: A 3 to 5 minute photo tribute set to a song that held special meaning to your person. During the ceremony, we take a break from spoken words to simply watch, listen, and remember. The video can also play on a continuous loop as guests arrive. I am happy to create it at no additional charge, or I can share the program I use if you would prefer to create it yourself.
• Poetry & Meaningful Readings: A favorite poem, Scripture passage, letter, quote, or piece of writing can be included when it reflects something meaningful about your person.
• Custom-Written Tribute Poem: An original poem written specifically for your person and their story.

Live musicians are available for an additional fee and are subject to availability.

The place you gather can be part of your person's story, too.

A Celebration of Life can take place somewhere traditional or somewhere completely personal.

• Funeral Home or Chapel: A traditional setting made personal through the stories, music, and details that reflect your person.
• Church or Place of Worship: Honor their faith and traditions in a place that held meaning in their life.
• Graveside: An intimate gathering for remembrance, reflection, prayer, and a final farewell.
• Beach, Park, or Garden: Gather outdoors in a setting that reflects their love of nature, the water, or a place they enjoyed.
• Family Home or Backyard: Celebrate their life in a familiar place filled with memories.
• A Favorite Gathering Place: A restaurant, clubhouse, marina, golf club, private venue, or another place that was simply part of who they were.

There is no one place where a Celebration of Life has to happen. Sometimes the most meaningful setting is simply a place they loved.
